There are two schools of thought.  The first holds that it is GOOBER's cousin, from Mayberry NC.

The second maintains that it is an identifier for a celebrity or politician in the ER.  It directly traces to Teddy Kennedy being brought into the emergency room at Cape Cod Med Ctr.  He was trying to say "Go back to the pond.  Mary Jo is stuck in the car".  However his Scotch consumption made it sound like:  "GoooMerrrrr".  The rest is history.  And that's the truth.

Medical slang for a patient who "has lost--often through age--what goes into being a human being" (quote from Samuel Shem's "The House Of God"). Typically an old demented noncommunicative patient.


Also describes dimocrats, well, except the non-communicative part. If only......
